Travel theme: parks

This week Ailsa challenged us to illustrate what parks mean to us.

According to Wikipedia :
“A park is a protected area, in its natural or semi-natural state, or planted, and set aside for human recreation and enjoyment, or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. It may consist of rocks, soil, water, flora and fauna and grass areas. Many parks are legally protected by law.

Wilderness parks are intact and undeveloped areas used mainly by wild species. Protected wilderness zones are required for some wild species to survive. Some protected parks focus mainly on the survival of a few threatened species, such as gorillas or chimpanzees.”

Increasingly the word is being used to define and preserve an area of historical, cultural and/or heritage signifance.

The Parc Guelle in Barcelona, created by Antoni Gaudi in the early 1900′s, is one such example.

Unfortunately the day we visited the park was the day the battery in my camera gave up the ghost so I didn’t get as many photos as I would have liked and we spent some considerable time trying to get another battery. Such is the life of a traveller.
