Sapphire is one of my favourite colours and I have always associated it with the colour blue. My engagement ring (for which I waited 18 years until we found the right one) is made of diamonds and sapphires. They are really dark blue, so dark they almost look black in some lights. However, sapphires come in many other shades varying from light to dark blue and, in addition, they occur as pink, green, yellow and shades of orange and brown.

I shot these blue agapanthus flowers in the gardens of Hadspen House, near Bruton in Somerset, UK. At the time the garden was oval-shaped enclosed within walls of mellowed ageing red brick. It was a beautiful place. It seems that the house has changed ownership, the garden is no longer open to the public and I’m not even sure it exists any more. Such a pity.

  1. Beautiful. I especially love the peacock. Thank you so much for sharing.

  2. I went to Hadspen about 15 years ago, the border was done as a rainbow. I heard it had closed and or changed hands, very sad.
